Commissioning a Custom Original
When commissioned to create artwork or art projects, I follow a clear step-by-step process to ensure the final piece meets the customer's expectations.
Engagement Process:
1. Initial Consultation
I begin by asking for essential information such as the number of subjects or elements to be included, the desired size, the preferred medium, and the substrate to be used. I also discuss the time frame for completion and provide an accurate cost estimate.
2. Agreement and Deposits
To formalize the arrangement, I outline the payment structure, including deposits.
3. Delivery Options
I offer delivery options, which are quoted separately.
4. Planning the Artwork
Once the initial details are agreed upon, we decide whether the artwork will be created from reference photos or through an in-person meeting. This choice influences how I approach capturing the subject’s likeness and personality or the overall vision.
5. Preliminary Sketching or Drafting
I create preliminary sketches or drafts to establish the layout and composition of the artwork. These are shared with the customer for approval before proceeding. This ensures alignment and allows for any early adjustments.
6. Creation Phase
After sketch or draft approval, I begin developing the artwork in the chosen medium. Any significant changes during this phase may result in extra charges, and I keep the customer informed about progress as needed.
7. Finishing the Artwork
When the work is complete, it is left to dry or cure completely if applicable, typically between 14 and 28 days. After this period, a protective coating or finishing touches are applied to preserve and enhance the piece.
8. Final Review and Adjustments
The finished artwork is presented to the customer, who may request one set of adjustments or alterations included in the original agreement, prior to final delivery.
9. Timeline and Delivery
The typical timeframe from commissioning to delivery is six to eight weeks, depending on project complexity. While framing or presentation is not provided, packaging and delivery are arranged separately with a quoted price to ensure safe arrival.
Throughout this process, the goal is to create artwork that not only fulfills the customer’s specifications but also conveys the intended emotions and vision intrinsic to the project.
Any ideas or images that can be realized in an artistic manor, to be used for just personal pleasure, memorializing a person, pet, location or event, fundraising, depictions used in or on media or magazines, and design that can be represented in media such as retail products, murals or signage.
Generally unless discussed the rights of all artwork is maintained by the artist.
As the artist I do allow copies to made at the expense of purchaser,
The quantity and sizes will be agreed upon.
These will be registered in my art database.
